Cycle across Rajasthan's diverse landscapes to witness the lively and unparalleled festivities of the Pushkar Camel Fair. This 17-day cycling adventure takes you beyond the usual, combining rural landscapes, ancient forts, vibrant towns, and timeless traditions with an immersive festival experience.
Timed to coincide with the legendary Pushkar Camel Fair, this tour brings you into the heart of an event where thousands of camels, traders, folk musicians, dancers, and mystics gather in the sacred town of Pushkar. The desert comes alive with colour and chaos — a swirling celebration of Rajasthan’s deep-rooted culture and nomadic heritage. From livestock parades to traditional competitions and spiritual rituals at the holy lake, it’s a festival that captures the spirit of India like no other.
While the Diwali festival may also overlap during this journey, it serves as a charming backdrop — a few nights were villages glow with clay lamps and fireworks. It adds a festive sparkle, but the real focus is the road ahead and the fair that awaits.
Beyond a mere Rajasthan cycling tour, this journey offers a deep dive into the cultural essence of Rajasthan. Rajasthan, the 'land of royals’, unfolds through desert trails, Aravalli hills, and centuries-old towns. You'll meet warm-hearted locals, explore majestic forts, and discover the everyday rhythm of rural India — all from the saddle of your bike.
We begin in Delhi with a full day of sightseeing. Discover India’s capital through its Mughal monuments and colonial buildings. Then we fly to Udaipur, the city of lakes, to begin our ride. We start with local cycling around the lakes and palaces, easing you into Rajasthan’s rhythm. Next, we head for Kumbhalgarh Fort, which sits high in the Aravalli hills. The ride is challenging but worth every pedal. From there, we go deeper into rural Rajasthan, through Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur, Korta, Beda, Bhenswara, and Pushkar to meet locals and experience village life firsthand.
Each stop on this journey offers something unique. In Udaipur, we’ll explore the beautiful city nestled around scenic lakes. We'll enjoy a delightful dinner at a restaurant located on the banks of the lake, offering stunning views. We’ll also cycle approximately 40 km through the peaceful countryside surrounding Udaipur, experiencing rural life up close. From there, we head deeper into the rural heart of Rajasthan. Our next ride takes us to Kumbhalgarh, where we’ll visit the majestic Kumbhalgarh Fort, home to the second-longest continuous wall in the world—often referred to as the "Great Wall of India"—stretching over 38 km. Our journey continues to Ranakpur, where we’ll explore the awe-inspiring Jain temple, renowned for its exquisite marble carvings and tranquil atmosphere. In Beda and Bhenswara, we’ll have the opportunity to connect with the local culture—meeting camel herders, farmers, and traditional folk artists, offering a true glimpse into the rural life of Rajasthan.
This section of the tour is where Rajasthan reveals its soul. As you cycle past dry riverbeds and quiet fields, children wave from doorways and elders invite you for tea. It’s slow travel in its purest form. After exploring the villages, we roll into Jodhpur, the vibrant Blue City of Rajasthan. Here, we’ll take a day tour to explore the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India, offering panoramic views of the city. We'll also visit the serene Jaswant Thada, a beautiful marble cenotaph, and wander through the bustling local markets, rich with colors, spices, and handicrafts. As you wander Jodhpur's labyrinthine alleys, you’ll discover the famous blue-painted homes that have earned the city its nickname—offering a vibrant scene full of charm and perfect for photography enthusiasts.
We now enter one of the most vibrant and culturally rich segments of our Rajasthan cycling tour—the iconic Pushkar Camel Fair.
After exploring Jodhpur, we ride towards Pushkar, a sacred town nestled around a tranquil lake. Here, we’ll witness the world-famous Pushkar Camel Fair, one of Rajasthan’s most spectacular and colorful festivals. This annual event draws thousands of traders, pilgrims, performers, and travelers from around the world. The fair is a mesmerizing blend of tradition and celebration—where camels are decorated, raced, and traded, while folk music, dance, and local rituals fill the air with energy. It's a photographer's paradise and a rare opportunity to experience Rajasthan’s rural life, spiritual depth, and festive spirit all in one place.
After experiencing the vibrant Pushkar Camel Fair, we’ll proceed to Jaipur, the Pink City and a true powerhouse of Rajasthani culture. Jaipur is renowned for its grand palaces, imposing forts, and bustling markets filled with handicrafts, textiles, and jewels. From the majestic Amber Fort to the elegant City Palace and the iconic Hawa Mahal(Wind Palace), Jaipur offers a rich blend of royal history and colourful street life that perfectly captures the spirit of Rajasthan.
To balance the cultural energy, we head to Ranthambore National Park for a change of pace. This famous tiger reserve is home to leopards, deer, and hundreds of birds. On a guided jeep safari, you may spot the majestic Bengal Tiger in the wild. It’s thrilling, raw, and unforgettable. The tour ends in Uttar Pradesh, where we visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal. This marble wonder, a symbol of eternal love, is the perfect finale to your journey. Whether seen at sunrise or sunset, its beauty lingers in your memory long after.

We set off from the hotel on our bikes, heading towards Bhadrajun. The path winds gently with some small climbs and descents, mostly passing through the dry landscape typical of the region. After stopping for a picnic lunch, the terrain gradually shifts to a more barren, desert-like environment. The final 10 kilometers take us through expansive hills, featuring mostly gentle rolling slopes rather than steep climbs. After covering a total of 60 kilometers by bike, we pause for a transfer of approximately 100 kilometers to Jodhpur. Depending on traffic, this transfer usually takes about three hours. As we travel through rural villages along the way, you’ll catch a glimpse of traditional Rajasthan life. These villages often feature mud-brick houses and narrow, winding streets. The villagers maintain age-old customs, offering a unique cultural experience that contrasts beautifully with the arid surroundings. You may see women dressed in bright ghagras (skirts) and men wearing traditional turbans, adding vibrant splashes of color to the earthy landscape.

Today is a long day of transfers, with two transfers and 50 km of cycling in between. After breakfast, we have an 80 km transfer that brings us to Medta. From there, we cycle 50 km through green fields and small villages. Since it’s a long day and we want to spend time at the Camel Fairgrounds, we will start around 8 AM and try to ride a bit faster, minimizing time spent on water and lunch breaks. After lunch at a local restaurant, we drive the remaining 120 km to Pushkar, arriving by evening. Once there, we explore the ghats and markets of this sacred town, buzzing with the energy of the Camel Fair.
Hotel: Hotel Jagat Palace or similar
We start the day with a walk through the spiritual heart of Pushkar. At dawn, the lake glows golden as devotees bathe at the sacred ghats, offering prayers and lighting incense. We visit the Brahma Temple, one of the few temples in the world dedicated to Lord Brahma. The atmosphere here is soulful and intense. The Pushkar Camel Fair is an unforgettable experience. Held once a year after the festival of Diwali, this tiny desert town transforms into a dazzling spectacle of culture, color, and chaos. Thousands of camels, horses, and livestock arrive from across Rajasthan, adorned with bright beads, embroidered blankets, and painted patterns. Camel races, turban-tying competitions, folk music, and acrobatics fill the desert air with excitement. The fairground turns into a vibrant carnival of rural India, featuring Ferris wheels, food stalls, and traditional puppet shows that attract visitors from around the world. This livestock market is one of India’s most colorful and lively cultural festivals. By late morning, we leave Pushkar and begin cycling through gently rolling hills and open countryside. After 28 km, we reach a short but challenging climb up a small ridge. The descent that follows rewards you with sweeping views of the valley below. We drive out of Jaipur and begin cycling through open countryside. Along the way, we pass villages and farmlands, stopping for snacks and water breaks as needed. We’ll cycle approximately 62 km before reaching the restaurant, where we stop for lunch. After lunch, we load our cycles and drive to Ranthambore, home to India’s most famous tiger reserve. Upon arrival, we check into a jungle lodge and rest up for tomorrow’s safari.

Explore Ranthambore National Park on a thrilling jeep safari. Keep an eye out for deer, monkeys, peacocks, crocodiles, sloth bears, leopards, and—if you're lucky—the majestic Bengal tiger. While tiger sightings are never guaranteed, in our experience, booking the safari 5–6 months in advance usually secures a good zone, significantly increasing the chances of spotting a tiger. The jeep will pick you up from the hotel around 6:00 AM. The hotel will serve tea and coffee before your departure. You'll return from the morning safari around 9:30 AM, followed by breakfast. Lunch is served between 1:00 and 1:30 PM. The second safari begins between 2:30 and 3:00 PM, and you’ll return by around 6:00 PM. Dinner and overnight stay at the resort.
Hotel: Ranthambore Heritage Haveli or similar
Today, we leave Rajasthan and head to Agra, which is about 260 km from Ranthambore. On the way, we cycle part of the route through a changing landscape—leaving behind the Aravalli mountain range and entering the plains of northeastern Rajasthan. We begin cycling directly from the hotel and cover approximately 50 km. It’s an easy ride on flat tarmac roads, and based on our past experience, we often enjoy a tailwind that makes the ride even more pleasant. After completing the 50 km ride, we stop for a packed lunch. Then, we load up our bikes and begin the drive to Agra. At this point, our pickup driver and cycling guide will leave us to return to either Udaipur or Delhi in preparation for the next tour. If you’d like to offer tips or express your gratitude, this would be the right time to do so. From here, it’s about a 5-hour drive to Agra. If time permits, we’ll visit the Taj Mahal from the banks of the Yamuna River at sunset—a beautiful and peaceful spot, away from the crowds. We’ll spend the night at a hotel in Agra, with a buffet dinner.
Hotel: The Grand Imperial or similar
Wake early (around 5:00 AM) for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal. The ivory-white marble glows beautifully in the soft morning light. Built in memory of Mumtaz Mahal, this iconic symbol of love is a perfect finale to your exciting Rajasthan cycling tour. After visiting the Taj, return to the hotel for breakfast and a refreshing shower. We will check out around 10:00 or 10:30 AM.
