We start off in Delhi and take you straight away to Agra to see the magnificent monument of love and one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. It’s a majestic 17th-century marble structure that bears testimony to the sublime Mughal art and architecture. The layout, the intricate designs, the calligraphy on the tiles, the latticework in the windows, the geometric patterns in the domes and apses, all of it is sure to leave a visitor spellbound. And even before this spell wears away, we kick off the special Rajasthan cycling tour in Udaipur, the city of lakes rightly nicknamed ‘Venice of the East’. Being steeped in Rajasthan’s rich royal heritage, Udaipur deserves nothing short of a day’s cycling around. You cycle past historic forts and palaces and visit the serene lakes. If anything, the experience whets your curiosity for more royal encounters ahead in this ultimate Rajasthan holiday trip. And that encounter comes with the visit to the 15th century Mewar fortress of Kumbhalgarh, a world heritage site.

Those yenning for an up-close experience of the rural Rajasthani culture are duly rewarded when the biking tour goes through the villages where you come upon camel herders of the ancient Rabari sect whose women wear distinctive black headscarves and heavy brass earrings. Those craving for a cycling challenge will get the chance to test their mettle on some short steep Ascends. But, for the most part, biking on our Rajasthan Cycling Tour with Taj Mahal is easy on your body.

Legend has it that the men of this sect married the daughters of gods, rather than mortal women, earning the epithet of Rabari (those who go out of the path). Once nomadic, the Rabari men, by tradition, are camel herders and they travel vast distances in search of grazing land. The women stay at home and run the village. The Rabari sect worships the goddess Mata Devi. They are a strong and proud people and their women wear distinctive black headscarves and heavy brass earrings.
